10 Practices for Shifting Your WOB (Way of Being)

10 Practices you can apply to make meaning and live and lead with purpose.

1.     Lean into the discomfort of not knowing. This is the only place true creation occurs.

2.     Stop reacting to problems and start creating the future you desire based on what truly matters to you and for others to thrive.

3.     Widen your circle of alliances and influence. You can only see up to the horizon. You need others who are further away to see what’s beyond the horizon.

4.     Reframe DIVERSITY as THE INTERCONNECTEDNESS OF IDEAS AND PERSPECTIVES based on lived experience. Rather than the stereotypical check the box definition of diversity.

5.     Focus on your development by challenging your beliefs and assumptions. Get feedback (I don’t believe in constructive criticism = oxymoron) from those who have your best interests at heart.

6.     Find a mentor that is more evolved than you. Allow her to show you new possibilities.

7.     Constantly do things to put yourself in beginner’s mind. Become a Lifelong Learner.

8.     Organizations develop only as far as the level of development of the leadership team. When the leadership team evolves so does the organization.

9.     Do not seek affirmation or validation from outside yourself. If you base your self-worth on what others say you’ll never see yourself as enough, you will give away your power, and you will never be able to take a stand for your value.

10.  MOST IMPORTANTLY - GET REACQUAINTED WITH WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT MATTERS TO YOU TODAY SO THAT YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE FUTURE.

“For while there are skills to gain and character traits to develop, there is only one way to begin. Just start — and let the work teach you… You may not yet have a crystal-clear sense of your purpose. That’s okay. It will grow with you. But if you have an inkling that you’d like your life to be about something bigger than yourself, listen to that urge. Follow the thread. The world needs you. Just start.”
